Leila Restaurant, in the heart of downtown West Palm Beach, is just off the popular Clematis Street nightlife area. Leila is open for lunch and dinner and specializes in Middle Eastern style cuisine. If you aren’t familiar with this style of cooking, you may want to order a few of their appetizers from their extensive menu selection.
Leila’s menu includes 22 small plates, which they call mezza. Mezza are appetizer-sized portions, similar to tapas, of their delicious Mediterranean food choices. If this is your first visit to the restaurant, Leila recommends trying the mezza tour which is a choice of any six of their appetizer selections.
Many people are familiar with their more traditional dishes: such as hummus, falafel and tabouleh. The more daring culinary adventurers can try items such as sambusik which is a light and flakey pastry filled with a mixture of minced beef, pine nuts and sweet onion.
If you still have room left after enjoying your tour of Leila’s small plates, how about ordering a nice strong cup of Turkish coffee and one of their signature desserts? The hellu tour is a delicious medley of three of their desserts: knaffe, baklawa and sokseh. Baklawa is a traditional Middle Eastern confection of thin layers of filo pastry filled with finely ground pistachios sweetened with rose water and orange blossom syrup.
